Our anthology, MANIFESTO, was born directly out of that call to action. With various indie artists and youth creators from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, this collection directly reflects the raw struggles, brilliant victories, and ongoing transformations of our shared life and culture.
We asked ourselves: If the revolution will not be televised, how do we honor the movement of its heartbeat? Our answer: The revolution will be illustrated. We are picking up the torch to show that change isn’t just a political broadcast—it is a visual art form, a spiritual evolution, and a living, breathing testament to survival, resistance, and rebirth.

For 20+ years, Oakland Technology & Education Center (OTEC) has been dedicated to empowering the next generation of storytellers and tech innovators. Through hands-on workshops, educational programs, and community partnerships, we focus on bridging the digital divide and fostering creativity!
We believe the communities whose cultures, stories, and voices have been historically marginalized need to be in the creative driver’s seat of our future.
We lean into the love of comics and pop culture to promote and build literacy skills, gather and celebrate community, and deliver and scaffold workforce development and career-building opportunities for aspiring creatives, storytellers, and innovators from youth to adults.
AfroComicCon is the annual convention that brings together the impactful work of Oakland Technology & Education Center, advancing a more creative and inclusive future for fandom. Founded to celebrate creativity, representation, and community.
AfroComicCon uplifts Black creators, artists, and fans while shaping the landscape of pop culture across comics, gaming, anime, cosplay, technology, and film.
The convention features inspiring panels, hands-on workshops, incredible cosplay, and dynamic artist and vendor showcases, creating a truly unforgettable experience for fans of all ages.
